Applicants must be willing to provide evidence of eligibility to work in the UK if requested.This position may be in Cambridge or GreenfordSUMMARY OF THE ROLEThe Buyer will report to the Head of Procurement and will be responsible for maximising value for money through theprocurement process by identifying & implementing strategic sourcing initiatives to improve the design & competitivenessof our products.ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE:Flowdown & effective implementation of the Company Procurement Strategy to the suppliers.Responsible for the management of the procurement of bought out materials for selected commodities & suppliers & toensure that bought-out materials meet specification, delivery & quality requirements.To identify supply chain risks & introduce necessary risk mitigation plans.To develop supplier relationships by sharing forward planning and business goals to collectively make better informeddecisions to enable us to reach our goals.To identify and evaluate the capability and competitiveness and ongoing development of suppliers who will meet ourcurrent & future business requirements.Work with the Supplier Development Manager to ensure the supplier selection process is undertaken in accordance withnecessary approvals and that suppliers develop to meet the Company improvement plans.To establish Supplier contracts and ensure flow down of terms and conditions from Customer contracts is understood andaccepted in the supply chain and relevant clauses included in Supplier contracts.In conjunction with the Supplier Development Manager, undertake regular business reviews with key suppliers to reviewdelivery, quality & cost performance, existing & future requirements & improvement programmes.Establish with suppliers, a supply chain process that will generate an increase in inventory turns & lead-timereductions.Maximise profit contribution & value for money by optimising cost savings on high value material expenditures.Develop inventory management strategies aimed at achieving zero "stock-outs" for materials required supporting ourmanufactured products.Work with the Supplier Development Manager to implement KanBan for bought-out materials.Actively work together with our Engineering/ Programmes teams & our strategic Suppliers to reduce costs, improve designs,remove risks and reduce product lead times.Follow market conditions in support of the overall supply chain process & obtain and communicate technology developmentswithin the Engineering Team to support new product programmes.Communicate with the Engineering Team during the project lifecycle & provide intelligent purchasing support to productdesigns and be influential in the make/ buy decision process.Continuously assess the procurement process and, where appropriate, suggest and implement corrective action to improvethe process.WORKING CONDITIONSOffice based - Regular visits to Suppliers (including overseas travel when necessary)This position may demand out of hour's work to satisfy company & customer requirements. Job holders may be asked to workout of hours with short notice.PERSON SPECIFICATIONMust have electro-mechanical buying experience.Must have extensive experience of purchasing electro-mechanical components from the Far East.If the candidate can answer these questions he has done the full life cycle.Must have come from a small electro-mechanical company (doesn't have to be defence) 50 million pound companies areclassed as small.Must be engineerly minded.Good cost saving experience |
