We are looking for a Computer Operator to join our team working in Birstall, which supports all of the data centreservices that we provide to our client.Duties and ResponsibilitiesThere are a variety of tasks you'll be responsible for, which will include database back-ups, batch scheduling tasks,storing of recorded data and ensuring that the pre-determined work schedules are carried out. You'll also provide anout-of-hours 1st line helpdesk and fault management service, and will resolve or escalate incidents as necessary. You'llalso get the chance to act as a mentor to junior team members, and may even deputise for senior operators depending onyour experience, and ensure that documents and procedures are updated.Skills and Knowledge RequirementsIdeally, you will have a minimum of 12 months computer operations experience, gained within a shift environment. Youshould be able to demonstrate your knowledge of working across multi-platform, mid-range environments, preferably usingUnix, Open VMS, Solaris, Tru64 or AIX technologies, combined with an understanding of windows-based servers andapplications. You'll also have good skills in using Microsoft Office applications.Professional and Educational RequirementsA GCSE level education is preferred for this role, although other qualifications will be considered. To be successful inthis role, you'll need to be a good team player, who is flexible and adaptable to a variety of environments.
