ClientThe client, part of a major multi national corporation, manufactures and markets a range of mechanical seals and flexiblepower transmission couplings.Position Overview.They are seeking an enthusiastic engineer to work within the Turbo Gas Seals development team on the next generation ofseals. As such, you will be responsible for carrying out the detailed design and development of precision assembliesrelating to gas seals and their supporting systems for the compressor industry. The successful candidate is expected tomature into a key member of the engineering department, supporting and improving the clients position as the globalmarket leader in gas seal technology.Responsibilities.Working under the Engineering Project Manager in a small team, you will be expected to carry out a detailed developmentrole in the design of seals for the rotating equipment industry.A methodical, structured approach to work is needed to meet project deadlines. You will be expected to develop precisionsealing solutions and analyse critical components to form reliable, robust designs in terms of both performance andmanufacture.Within this role, you will be expected to apply a broad range of engineering disciplines and analytical modelling. A goodunderstanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and solid mechanics are essential, whilst a working knowledge oftribology and metallurgy would be beneficial. Empirical performance evaluation will be required working closely withtechnicians on test plans and data gathering for correlation with the analytical models.The Selection CriteriaHave a degree in an engineering related subject with a minimum of 2:1 classification.Have strong analytical and problem solving skills.2 years minimum experience in a similar engineering environment preferred, although consideration will be given toexceptional candidates with less.Able to adopt a pro-active and flexible approach to work that allows the candidate to work independently as well as partof a small team.As well as having a broad engineering skill set, experience of FEA & CFD codes would be beneficial, as you will beexpected to apply these within your work.Close liaison with both internal and external customers will be essential and therefore strong communication skills aremandatory including verbal, written and formal presentations.A limited amount of foreign travel will be required.This role offers a competitive salary, a benefits package that includes 25 days annual holiday and pension scheme.Rowe & Co.
