Applicants must be willing to provide evidence of eligibility to work in the UK if requestedMain purpose of the jobTo take responsibility for, and participate in, the complete development cycle for digital IC functions in either digitalonly or mixed signal wireless ASICs. This will be from preparing the specification and designing the architecture rightthrough to final implementation, verification and approval for volume production.Type of work undertaken by the groupOur RF Systems Group forms a major part of the Wireless Business Unit and is responsible for delivering wireless ICdesign, specific radio hardware and overall wireless system design to clients of the WBU. In this role the RF SystemsGroup works very closely with the DSP and the Wireless Software Groups, both of which are part of the Wireless BusinessUnit.At a higher level, the Wireless Business Unit applies standards-based radio solutions to a wide range of our clients'applications, principally in the telecommunications, healthcare, consumer goods and automotive areas. It pre-developssoftware and hardware designs for wireless systems (existing ones include DECT and Bluetooth), and can either licensethis standard intellectual property, or base novel designs upon it. The WBU has often customised a pre-developed radiosolution to match a particular set of power, range and data rate requirements, whilst retaining the bulk of the design.This reduces significantly the cost, development time and risks.Recent examples include a cellular radio telemetry system for real-time medical monitoring, a high-quality digital radiolink for a professional intercom system, a cordless video-telephone system, and a wireless elevator call button inaddition to a large number of more conventional applications.Specific responsibilitiesIn this role you will be responsible for:Both preparing and working from specifications for digital IC functions taking the wider view of the product andapplication requirements and converting them into silicon solutionsDefining the most suitable digital system design/architecture to meet the specificationUndertaking the detailed design of digital circuits down to dimensioned component level and guiding and reviewing thelayoutProgramming XILINX FPGAs to emulate the ASIC designs for lab testing before chip sign-offCreating production digital test vectorsWorking at all times as part of a close-knit multi-disciplinary project team focussed on delivering the design solutionto our clientParticipating in sales meetings with clients to understand their requirements and demonstrate the company's capabilityPrepare and contribute to proposals and quotationsMaintaining and developing CAD systems to enhance our development capabilityDefining best practice for digital IC designCreating novel design solutions that will be of particular interest to our clientsIdentifying and pursuing new techniques and circuit solutions for digital IC design to maintain the company's leadingedge capabilityExperienceWith about 5 years experience working for an Electronics Design or IC design or IC fabrication company, you will haveextensive experience of sub-micron CMOS.Experience of sign-off and back-end flow for ASICs.Embedded microprocessor design experience would be valuable.Experience of the following tools would be valuable:Synopsys VCS VerilogSynopsys Design CompilerSynopsys TetramaxMentor FormalProSynplicity Synplify ProSynplicity Synplify ASICXilinx FPGA Place and RouteIdeally, you will have some project management experience or will be willing to learn.Future prospectsWe are committed to developing our employees careers and have a flexible policy for individual capabilities andpreferences.
