Mechanical Design EngineerMechanical Design Engineer required to provide concept, scheme and embodiment design of instrumentation mechanics, frominitial requirements through to low/medium volume manufacture. Design work to involve balancing potentially conflictingrequirements eg. engineering for value, quality, reliability, assembly, test, service. This role will be of specialinterest to those with a background in particle characterisation.Attributes required Entrepreneurial, dynamic, used to working in a fast-moving environment Hands-on, experimental approach Innovative - to be able to create and develop new ideas Self-motivated - to be able to drive designs through from idea to completion with minimal supervision Willing to learn - project management potential Commercially aware - to understand the need for short time to market Proven track record in working effectively to project timescales Used to working effectively in a multidisciplinary team Balance requirements for value engineering, assembly, test, service, time to market Good communicationSkills:Essential Graduate with 4yrs+ experience or equivalent High-technology background Design of concept, scheme of complete instrument design from specifications and an understanding of customerrequirements Experience of mechanical and or fluid dynamic design Electronics packaging, electromechanical knowledge, EMC, LVD Design for reliability, aesthetic design, product safety, product cost Relevant 2D/3D CAD experience Design for manufacture, FMEA Wide materials expertise in metals, plastics Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, injection moulding) Arrange / facilitate design reviews with peersBeneficial Optical assemblies, precision actuation mechanisms, Fluid handling systems, powder handling systems, Thermal management, cable management, Experience in prototyping (eg. SLA) processes Hands-on experience in a machining or machine shop environment desirable Awareness of MRP and JIT systemsProfileA graduate engineer (BSc or higher in Mechanical Engineering) with 4+ years relevant design experience |
