Description:

Role Summary:To work as part of a 24x7 shift team to maintain and operate the IP Networks and Dial-Up service to an operationallyviable state, all the way from the cabling level to the configuration of that equipment. To respond and act onoperational issues escalated by the Support teams. To take on and operate new services developed by the Development team.Technical Experience: 3 years working at 2nd - 3rd level support focussing on core backbone issues Good understanding of routing and Ethernet switching to 3rd line support level Basic understanding of the services run by the department (WWW, Mail, Backups, Authentication) leading to possiblecross-training Awareness of Internet security issuesThe Candidate: Abilities to communicate effectively with other members of the team. Ability to negotiate with Support teams and Development teams. There will be occasional telephone contact with customers. Willingness to learn new skills in order to support the full range of services. Ability to work independently, combined with the ability to work in a team in a shift pattern.Experience which should include as many of those below as possible.Hardware: Cisco routers: 1600 through 7500 Lucent Stinger, T1000, TNT, Pipeline, CellPipe Juniper routers: M5 though M160 Extreme / Alcatel (Xylan) / Foundry / Cisco Catalyst Ethernet switches CMS Physical media (Fibre, Cat V etc)Operating Systems: Cisco IOS, Juniper JunOS Lucent TAOS Extreme, FoundryInternet Protocols: OSPF, BGP, HSRP, VRRP, MPLS, ATM
