PURPOSE OF THE JOBTo be an important part of a Plant Team responsible for servicing, maintaining and repairing the technologically advancedplant and equipment , in order to meet agreed targets and production needs. This will involve carrying out routineexaminations, testing, fault finding and repair work on all the highly technical plant andequipment.PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIESTo carry out servicing, maintenance and repair, testing of all of the Depot plant and equipment to enable productiontargets to be met, ensuring that the safety of staff and other personnel remains the highest priority.To undertake faultfinding on all Depot plant and equipment, including pneumatic hydraulic, electrical mechanical systems,buildings and building fabric and systems including gas, water waste and air-conditioning. To drive various mobile plant, within the limits of the depot. To adhere to all statutory, procedures and requirements. To undertake tasks of a less skilled nature, when required to so. To operate items of powered plant and machinery, when trained to do so. To carry our routine and emergency maintenance, repair testing and improvements of plant and machinery. To be prepared to cover for the Team Technician when required to do so.KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCEMust have worked a recognised craft, mechanical or electrical apprenticeship, i with two or more years postapprenticeship experience in the maintenance field and have a minimum qualification of City & Guilds T 3 or ONC,in Electronic, Electrical or Mechanical fields.Must be able to prove an ability to quickly learn and to understand computer, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic andelectrical systems.Must have good general communication skills and be able to work as part of a team, which will enable him/her to carry outthe Team Technicians duties, in times of absence.EQUIPMENT USEDPlant Team Members will be required to use and maintain a variety of specialist equipment. This will range from a CNCwheel lathe, bogie drop and synchronous jacks, pressure vessels, specialised train conditioning and maintenance andrepair systems, precision measuring equipment, mobile plant, cranes and electronic test equipment.WORK PATTERNDue to the nature of the international train business, teams will be required to work a three- shift system. Thus,providing 24 hour, 365 day cover for all planned tasks and breakdowns.DIMENSIONSPost holders will be key members of the Plant Team responsible for servicing and maintaining a large and expensiveinventory of plant and equipment. Financial: (Indirect) Upkeep of capital assets to the value of over GBP 8 million at NPI.ANY OTHER INFORMATIONThe senior Team Member is an important part of a team comprising, Manager, Technicians and Senior Team Members. The teamas a whole will be assigned maintenance and repair tasks on Depot plant and equipment, and will be responsible forcompleting these tasks in agreed times and to a high standard. The Senior Team Member will have specific maintenancetasks and will be expected to work across conventional trade boundaries, once appropriate training has been given. Theemphasis is on teamwork. Therefore, Technicians and Senior Team Members will be expected to work together and assist eachother, in order to accomplish the teams overall objectives. |
