Project Design & Aftermarket EngineerOur prestigious Client is seeking an experienced Project Engineer who has a strong mechanical engineering designbackground coupled with good commercial awareness and a business acumen. The successful candidate will have a provenbackground in an engineering product development environment and will have expereince of project involvement from initialconcept through to final delivery.Good negotiation skills are required with excellent communication skills which can apply to all levels. A positive'can-do' attitude is essential with the drive and ambition to succeed and progress.A Mechanical Engineering background with experience of design projects in rail or automotive drive-line, powertrain,transmission or similar engineering environments would be most useful, ideally with a hands-on level of involvement.Candidates should also be clear decision makers and get involved at all stages of the project and be prepared tochallenge the status-quo.To provide key technical customer contact and engineering design capability to creation of initial concepts through to aninnovative, cost effective and compliant detailed solution to meet customer requirements, addressing both OE andAftermarket opportunities in the defence and industrial sectors.Providing a customer facing resource to assess project scope, requirements and provide Engineered solutions whilstsupporting the specification review, critique and negotiation phases of gaining & delivery of the orderInterpret customer specifications for assigned projects and opportunitiesCreate cost effective and innovative design proposals and solutions across and beyond the current range of products forindustrial, marine, defence and other high integrity applicationsPossess strong core design skills with competence in product architectures, materials selection, gear rating, shaft andbearing analysis, couplings, structural design of components, mechanical joint and lubrication system designDrawing, concession and design change approval signatoryFamiliar with relevant engineering standards and specificationsResponsible for ensuring contractual, ISO quality standards are metProvide technical support and instructions to associated business functionsIdeally a strong transmissions engineering technology knowledge; systems design, tradeoffs, materials, architectures andstate of the art.Relevant/adequate experience in the design of rotating machinery may also be acceptable (eg., automotive powertrain,power generation equipment)Defence industry background experience beneficialUnderstanding of product costing methodsKnowledge of manufacturing techniques and business systemsCommercially awareAt least 5 years in a similar senior engineering design roleProven track record more important than level of qualificationAble to effectively represent the company at a senior professional level with suppliers and customersCAD and relevant CAE literateCandidates should be aware that some work is Defence Product related.In summary then, this candidate must be action oriented, have business acumen, be creative, customer focussed, with bothtechnical and functional skills.
