Project ManagerOur client is seeking a Project Manager to be responsible for planning and delivering OEM/ODM projects on time, tospecification and product cost, within project budget.Principal AccountabilitiesPlanning:Ensure that accurate and detailed product specifications are provided to the OEM/ODM teamsWork with all departments such as product marketing to ensure an appropriate level of detail for an OEM/ODM productWork with the Technical Lead to ensure design verification test results are reviewed against the PRS and makerecommendations upon the suitability of the productAs necessary arrange for on site audits of the verification testing performed by the OEM/ODM teamsCo-ordinate design reviews of the OEM/ODM teams schematics and PCB layout ensuring that customer requirements arecapturedEnsure that overall hardware is fully qualified prior to acceptanceProduce accurate and detailed project plans assisting the OEM/ODM team to ensure the project plans are both realistic andachievableOversee the detailed analysis of OEM/ODM products and systemsWork with customer, account manager and product manager to ensure user's requirements is clearly understood and agreedOnce a project has been approved for planning, responsible for delivery of supporting documentation (cost plan, projectplan, risk log, product requirements specification)Negotiate with suppliers and 3rd parties to ensure that they can support the plan (e.g., software vendors and CAapprovals houses)Presentation of the project for Approval for Development to the Product Committee (or, perhaps, presenting the case thatin fact the project is not good business and should not be started)Delivery:Task the allocated resource in line with project requirements and prioritiesLiaise between company specialists and the contractor(s) engineers to ensure an appropriate level of knowledge transferbetween all partiesEnsure that accurate product specifications are available against which the OEM/ODM contractors can workProvide overall leadership, direction and motivation for staff under his/her controlProvide regular reports of project progress metrics against forecast: schedule; milestones; product cost; project costand estimate to completionContinually monitor, manage and mitigate existing and new risks throughout the project. Communication and escalationwhere necessary and appropriateContinually question, challenge and check progress on tasks being performed by the team, by other teams and by thirdpartiesContinually search for potential upside opportunities in schedule, product cost, product margin, product quality, productreliability, and project costCollate and prepare required documentation for each gate in the Outsource Supplier ManagementProcess to progress the project through the Design Verification, Pre-Production, Production and Shipping stagesCo-ordinate all activity by the wider team to ensure that all milestones on the plan are achievedWork with Operations and Technical Services to ensure that volume manufacture starts smoothly and on timeAfter launch, co-ordinate assessment, diagnosis and fixing of any early problems that may arise, and ensure that thecustomer is satisfied with the productProcess Improvement and Organisational Development:Participate in and drive Continuous Improvement projects aimed at improving the way that the company manages projects andits business overallCoach and mentor Project co-ordinators (if assigned) within the Performance Management system with a view to helping thembecome more effective Project co-ordinators and, where appropriate, develop into Project Managers.Qualifications, Skills & ExperienceScience or Engineering degreeEssential Skills/Experience:Effective management of remote teams preferably in Asia and IndiaProven ability to drive projects through to completionExperience of outsource design, development and manufactureEnsure OEM/ODM contractor(s) design to and deliver product to the required product and customer specificationsAbility to launch products into volume manufactureBusiness awareness sensitivity to product, project and corporate profitabilityUnderstanding and marking up contracts, statement of work, request for quotationsStrong negotiating skills including schedule negotiation with Outsource Suppliers, sales, third parties and customersResource managementSuccessful delivery of high volume consumer electronics (e.g. budget > GBP 1 M)Project risk identification, assessment and managementProject task breakdown, schedule estimation and planningProject cost estimation and controlUse of ExcelReport writingOrganising and chairing meetingsDesirable:Engineering backgroundMethodical approach, PRINCE2 awareness/background desirableHardware and software insightPreparing and delivering presentationsGrasp of statistics (field failure rate, quality, mean time between failures etc)Market awareness understanding of what is strategic and what is notUse of Mircosoft ProjectChinese language skillsEngineering risk assessmentUse of project data management system/MatrixCompetenciesEssential:Team buildingPrioritisation and triageEffective communication both internal and externalAbility to influence and persuade to achieve project objectivesProblem solvingCritical evaluationAttention to detailCompleter / finisherDesirable:Vision of how organisation could improve |
