Description:

: Our client, a marine biotechnology company dedicated to the discovery and commercialisation of new pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and natural human and animal feed additives, are currently seeking to appoint a R&D Manager within their European Centre for Marine Biotechnology in Argyll, Scotland. Reporting to the Board and Directors, the role entails management, co-ordination and implementation of the R&D strategy as set out by the Company Directors, along with responsibility for the team of scientific staff within the laboratory environment. A pre-requisite is a pro-active attitude towards the development & growth of the science base of the business as a primary objective. Key responsibilities of the role will include: Management, co-ordination & implementation of the R&D strategy of the company as set out by the Directors & the board by translating these strategies into manageable work programmes with achievable goals. Development of identified strategi! c goals and R&D program & maintaining R&D targets set by the board & Directors and using initiative to inform Directors of progress & challenges and improve existing procedures and to develop and execute novel ideas. Managing staff Overall training of staff on methods and procedures and maintaining discipline in consultation with Directors and delegation of work load to R&D staff to ensure that R&D targets are met and ensuring work is carried out to existing COSHH/Safety Procedures. Budgetary management of the lab, including weekly status reports to highlight progress of projects. To source, create & maintain good relationships with customers, suppliers and service providers in order to further the research program whilst maintaining links and networking with internal and external organisations including conference & workshop attendance. Preparation of confidential information, such contributions to patents, R&D reports, funding proposals for Directors and 3rd par! ties and presentation of Scientific progress to 3rd parties where deem ed appropriate. Health & Safety management of R&D staff and laboratory. Experience of either microbial fermentation / Ecology, Protein Biochemistry/Purification, Medicinal Micro or Molecular Biology is also a pre-requisite. Minimum of 10 years post grad experience, 5 of which must be within an industrial environment and 2 years project management experience. 3 - 5 years line management and experience of patent drafting / writing preferred.
