BackgroundThe Business Unit is responsible for the provision of a variety of ISTAR and battlespace management systems to militarycustomers in the UK and overseas. Current major customers include the MoD and a number of UK and international primecontractors. As part of a business reorganisation and strategic expansion, a number of new tasks are being undertaken andadditional opportunities are being persued that require an increase in systems engineering resource. Some of theseopportunities involve the provision of tactical datalink systems and Network Management Capability and knowledge of theseareas would be an advantage.The role will involve working alone and as part of a team as required.Responsibilities/DutiesCapture and analysis of system/sub-system requirements using DOORS or other computer based tools.Design of candidate system architectures to meet specified requirements using design methods and tools as appropriate.Analysis of these designs for a range of attributes (e.g. Cost, performance, ARM, ILS, resilience, safety) making use ofspecialist staff, where required, to carry out the modelling work.Selection of the optimum design based on defined evaluation criteria and the results of the analyses.Documentation of the system design and maintenance of requirements traceability throughout the design.Specification of hardware, software and mechanical requirements, and interfaces derived from the selected design.Planning, defining and documenting the integration, verification and validation of the system, and maintainingtraceability to the requirements.Carrying out integration, verification and validation testing.Costing of proposed system designs and estimating for system design activities.Planning of system design activities.Assessing and minimising project risks by active consideration of alternative lower risk solutions or risk reductionactivities.Provide technical consultancy to projects in any specialist skill/knowledge areas that the individual has gained fromprevious experienceDecision MakingThe Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for managing his/her task load in an appropriate manner.Senior Systems Engineering tasks require a detailed knowledge of internal Company standards and general engineeringstandards. The Senior Systems Engineer would be expected to apply these standards in an appropriate manner to each task.Contacts and Communication with Others:Working with/supporting the Project Manager on a daily basis to help define the technical strategy for a project.Specification and regularly monitoring progress of tasks placed on other groups within the Company in support of systemsengineering work.Reporting on progress, at least monthly, on project work to the Project ManagerResponsible for technical content and quality of systems engineering work ISTAR and Battlespace Management Chief SystemsEngineer.Promote the use of good engineering practices to all project team members.Creative DevelopmentThe Senior Systems Engineer will need the ability to find innovative solutions which meet the needs of customers in acost effective manner is a key part of the business unit strategy.Tools, S/W Packages and Equipment UsedEngineering: Visio, DOORS, MOODMS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook Microsoft Access.Adobe: Acrobat. |
