Applicants must be willing to provide evidence of eligibility to work in the UK if requested.The R&D Software Manager is the main driving force in co-ordinating all aspects of Software design which involve the Yorkengineering team, this includes actively driving co-operation and co-ordination on cross site activities, fostering aOne team approach.Responsibilities:Manage software team in York (5 people) and liaise with R&D managers within the organisation to support the integrationof the team within the company SW community. The SW team shall include RTOS SW, embedded firmware and HDL designers.Provide leadership, mentoring and a role model to support team development for the SW team to motivate the team toachieve and where possible exceed their goals.Define the teams ongoing structure, including any re-structuring together with R&D Management.Conduct regular reviews and appraisals of team members and map out development plans to shape the SW team in order tomeet future changes and actively drive increased performance from the team.Day-to-day line management including Capex & Opex proposal for the function, spend authorisation to agreed budget, as percompany process.Establish, implement and champion Software processes ensuring co-ordination to ensure their fit with other sites, releasemanagement including version numberingEnsure development tools are in place and aligned to development processEnsure SW process optimised to meet IS9000 requirementsWork with other company engineering teams both in York & elsewhere to ensure optimised whole solutions are definedWork with SW team to ensure SW processes are architected to build quality into the SW base.Work to build relationships with other SW teams within the organisation, help build an environment where truecross-site/cross cultural team work becomes the norm.Agree with the R&D Project manager or R&D director personnel allocation to projects.Ensure the SW team members understand their roles, rights & responsibilities within a project team and foster/encourage asense of ownership.Ensure that timescales for project work committed by the SW team are as accurate as possible with any associated risks &problems being highlighted in a timely fashion.Requirements:Engineering Degree or equivalentMinimum 5 years work experience, 2 years man management experienceKnowledge of C, VHDL, Linux, RTOS essential, knowledge of Networking, Ethernet, Unix, IP desirableFluent written and spoken EnglishBe able to demonstrate strong leadership skillsHigh social intelligenceAnalytical natureDecisiveExcellent management skills
