Description:

: This role would ideally suit someone with a strong background in Sonar Communications. It is a combination of Systems design, test, installation and support. My client is looking for a hands on engineer, ideal candidates will have come from a Sonar Systems background and will have worked within the services and also out in industry. Senior Engineer/Platform Manager: The Senior Engineer/Platform Manager reports to the project manager and is responsible for the design, build, installation, testing, support and removal of bespoke systems on RN Submarines. This requires long periods of offsite working, overseas travel and attendance during submarine sea trials often at very short notice. During installation and removal of systems the post holder has line management responsibility for a small team, in place of the project manager. In general candidates will have good technical, interpersonal, organisational, leadership and communication skills and be capable of leading a small team whilst offsite with minimal support from the project manager. Ideally they will have worked on other MoD contracts and be familiar with working in naval bases and on naval vessels. Technically they will be qualified to HNC or above (in Electronics or related subject) and have experience in systems engineering and good design principles. Experience in one or more of the following would be advantageous: digital and analogue interfacing, signal conditioning, recording systems, SONAR, Acoustics, COTS equipment in military applications, IT systems, networking and Visual Basic. Candidates will also have knowledge of relevant Commercial and Defence standards. Candidates will be competent in using Microsoft Word, Access, Excel and Project. Candidate should hold a current full car driving licence. The classification of this contract precludes non-UK Nationals from this position. The successful candidate must meet MoD Security requirements, this will involve undergoing the MoD Developed Vetting process. This process involves in-depth checks into the character and background of the person and will require the applicant, character referees and previous line managers to be interviewed.
