There are 3 main types of Electrician Jobs in the UK:

  • Installation electricians test and install wiring systems. These are often for lighting, security, fire, automatic doors and smoke alarms etc.
  • Maintenance electricians test and maintain electrical equipment. They can work in factories or assembly lines. They are usually working in industrial or commercial environments.
  • Production electricians deal with complex electrical appliances from wiring diagrams.

This is where you come in: Costain Natural Resources Division has an opportunity for a Principal / Senior Electrical Engineer to work in the Manchester office as a Lead Engineer. In this role, Your job duties will include being responsible for delivering the electrical design on FEED and EPC projects for both new and existing plants in the Oil and Gas and Nuclear sectors. A Lead Engineer is responsible either as a technical expert or a project discipline engineer for an individual project, group of projects or proposals. As a project discipline engineer, the employee will be assume control of all the electrical discipline content of projects, working within the project schedule, budget and quality requirements and supervising other electrical engineers and designers as called for on the project. Key responsibilities will include: • Responsibility for all discipline technical input to projects or proposals • Make independent technical decisions on the project • Organise discipline staff, allocating work and ensuring delivery against plan • Ensure all applicable national and international codes of practice, legislation and company/client standards and procedures are complied with • Prepare, check and/or agreeengineering deliverables on the project • Prepare equipment and materials requisitions for HV and LV switchboards, transformers, UPS systems, power factor correction, trace-heating, lighting and other electrical equipment • Prepare subcontract requisitions specifying installation scopes of work • Review suppliers quotations and prepare technical bid assessments • Carry out power study calculations including load profiles, fault levels and cable sizing • Conduct inspections and witness tests on equipment being supplied/manufactured • Carry out technical investigations and produce technical reports • Assist in the development and training of personnel within the Electrical, Control and Instrumentation Department • Assist in preparation of proposals as called for Knowledge / Skills / Behaviours: Knowledgeable and experienced in the design and installation of HV and LV distribution equipment Knowledgeable and experienced in the requirements for installation of electrical equipment in process plants and in particular for the installation of electrical equipment in potentially explosive areas Experienced in the provision of packaged plant and equipment Experienced in leading electrical teams on medium and large projects, demonstrating the skillto checkand control budgets ..........
