Engineering Construction Manager

Key points: The primary responsibility of the role is to coordinate and manage construction work related to the refurbishment of a large industrial gas plant in the south of the UK Knowledge of cryogenic air separation processes is an advantage but not required. The refurbishment will take place through a limited shut down period and will involve 24 hr, 7 days a week site activity. Due to the limited time available for on site activities it is required that all aspects of the work are thoroughly pre-planned and the successful candidate will be expected to spend an initial period of time in the office to take a leading part in this process in conjunction with client and contractors before going to site for the construction execution phase. Reporting to the Project Manager, responsibilities on site will be to manage, plan and direct activities throughout the construction phase within the overall site and in particular, the coordination of SHEQ, sub-contractors, materials, logistics, and site establishment. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES * Ensure through on-site supervision that the construction works are undertaken to required designs, specifications, standards and SHEQ requirements. * Manage / supervise the contractors. Undertake contract administration, e.g. issue PM instructions to the Contractor and facilitate fair and reasonable resolution of variations. * Monitor site progress including installation of equipment per the agreed programme. Make recommendations where extra resource or alternative work processes are required to maintain or increase performance. * Ensure that work is completed and punched out with the Contractors * Ensure maintenance of daily records of all site activities * Co-ordinate construction activities and manage project interfaces. The job holder must be familiar with the relevant safety legislation and comply with the necessary statutory requirements. These will include the Health & Safety at Work Act and associated Regulations such as CDM. The jobholder will: * Ensure that Health & Safety is the first priority on site and is positively communicated at all levels. * Review & accept Contractors Method Statements * Ensure that all construction works are undertaken in accordance with accepted Method Statements and permit conditions. * Regularly carry out Safety Surveys. Ensure that any corrective actions are stated and then monitored to completion. * Ensure that Health & Safety Plans are reviewed and recent or current as necessary by the Principal Contractor under CDM. EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS * Minimum 5 years experience in working with and managing contractors. * Qualified to comply with the job specification for planning and executing the work in a timely and safe manner. * Sound understanding and experience in the application of safety legislation and corporate safety procedures, including CDM. * Good understanding of commer ..........
